But(s)...
Slow and steady wins the race. AND All good things come to those who wait.
BUT
Time and tide wait for no man.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
BUT
Actions speak louder than words.
Wise men think alike.
BUT
Fools seldom differ.
Look before you leap.
BUT
Strike while the iron is hot.
Birds of a feather flock together.
BUT
Opposites attract.
Doubt is the beginning of wisdom.
BUT
Faith will move mountains.
Silence is golden.
BUT
The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
You're never too old to learn.
BUT
You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Hold fast to the words of your ancestors.
BUT
Wise men make proverbs and fools repeat them.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
BUT
Out of sight, out of mind.
Isn't this frigging ironic? How we humans tend to contradict with ourselves? =P

Mei's 20th
Been too busy recently to drag my sorry lil butt to update. Just a short update just to waste some space and also to advertise Mei's 20th birthday that is.
Mei is one of the youngest graduate ever for a bachelor degree holder in my course. At 20. Deng. As per the usual routine, a birthday dinner coupled together with a birthday song and a birthday cake and THE BIRTHDAY GIRL was the main attraction at that night.
Venue was over at Gasoline, Lookout Point, Kuala Lumpur. First sight of the place? Impressive. After the first sight? Horrendous. Besides having the poor Pang Han suffering from their tendency to breed prawns whenever they're ordered, the poor guy had to starve for more than 1 1/2 hours before finally changing his order to something else. Throw in a pair of speakers with one side being the Treble and the other being the Bass, you'd probably get frustrated, especially if you're sitting near the speaker with the Treble.
And, thanks to Amy for being the entertainer for the night, where she perfomed her trademark show of "playing with the THING" at the request of PaPa BeaR. We thought it was a free performance till PaPa BeaR's orange juice was disappearing as though the jar that he drank from had sprung a leak. Till. We discovered Amy being the "leak". LoL

Selamat Pengantin Baru...
And I was just reading back on Francis and Ai Vea's wedding post dedication and finally the question of "which would be the next lucky couple to tie the knot?" is finally answered. Curious? Read below.
Well, had my wedding invitation from Natasha and her beau, Arif and this is the second wedding invitation that I've got invited to, first of which, was Francis and Ai Vea's wedding.
Held on the 3rd of August 2008 at the 3K Community Complex in SS13 Subang Jaya, we had a contingent of about 10 people from UWE who had attended the wedding. Food and entertainment at the wedding was great, preparations and the wedding reception itself was splendid indeed!
Didn't bring my cam out, so will have to make do with pictures taken by Raqib's trusty 7.1mp camera. And of course without the guidance from camwhore queen, we shall end this post with one. and only ONE picture. =P =P =P

Ariel Ng
Alright some long-awaited update. Went for Francis & Ai Vea's daughter's full moon party at his place almost a week after I touched down from the UK. Yeap, for those who aren't updated frequently enough, Mr Francis Ng and Ms Fuan Ai Vea has become proud parents to a daughter named Ariel Ng. Who would have thought that parenthood struck like a bullet train, but I guess all ends well for this happy couple, with a happy daughter.
Pics are courtesy of Mr. George Khoh a.k.a. the Camera Man for the day (as usual, for those who're acquainted enough to know the joke originated from Italy).
Hey Hey! You there! Taking my pic costs money you know, it's tiring posing for you all to take my picture. =(

Cause I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane...
And so, the end is inevitably here. Its quite an emotional affair as this place at Room 3 - Flat 307 is where I had called "Home" for a short period of a year.
Sure shit had happened during my 1 year stay at the New Student Village @ UWE Frenchay, Bristol. E.g. Lift breaking down, Shitty arsehole running around knocking on doors at midnight etc etc But nonetheless its still quite a nice place to call "Home", gotta grow to love the room with an en-suite bathroom and thicker walls, unlike the slums Caroll Court which is a stone throw's away from NSV. Hehe.
Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.
That quote just aptly summarises the whole post actually. Tee hee. Now wouldn't you want to kill me for making you read through the whole emo post.
Just a little sentimental photos for readers to enjoy the nice scenery at the NSV, just scroll on below. (Note: Pictures are of courtesy from Fer "Mrs. Bear" Lynn)

Itadakimasu
Not to be outdone by Mei's delicious and sumptious Japanese food post in her blog, here's one post dedicated to compete with hers. =P
Anyways, the setting is at Obento, located at the Bristol City Centre, a stone's throw away from the usual stop that the Ulink bus stops at the Victoria Street's stop. Quite a small outlet, but it did indeed had some good music being played that helped nuture the elegant-feeling atmosphere, except its a bit pricier at £139 for a dinner for 5 people; but hey, good food always come with a better price tag ain't it?. And the event? Was to be in conjunction with Edward Saw's 23rd Birthday dinner and also to satisfy both Edward and I's craving for Japanese food (thanks to Mei :S).
The food surprisingly came quite fast, right before both the three of us (Ed, Jon and me) could say "Gief Food!" And most importantly, we left as a satisfied customer, both spiritually and physically (the stomach of course!). Meh, its getting pretty tiring writing up this post, so I'll let the pictures to do the talking.
Obento, Bristol City Centre
A delighted Birthday Boy =3
Can you say; "Foooood. Glorioussssss food." Or, "Meh. Gief Sushi!"

In Loving Memory of Rosline Lam Soo Kean
Time has passed on so fast that it is Rosline's birthday on this very date, 31st of May, where she would have celebrated her 21st with a big bash if she were still around. Rest assured, the times in TBF will not be forgotten by all of us in Group 2, as you'll remain as our one and only best friend and also our beloved class rep.
Let's all have a moment of silence on this very day. And this post is specially dedicated to you.
In loving memory, Rosline Lam Soo Kean
31 May 1987 - 1 August 2006
You remain in our memories forever.

Dato' Nazir Razak - CIMB Group CEO
A meaningful quote from the CEO himself:
CIMB Group CEO Dato Nazir Razak : “My worry is that when the government is trying so hard to help the Bumiputeras, it may hamper and undermine their future and achievements. When you give them contracts and money easily, you are actually undermining the spirit of entrepreneurship.”

R.I.P.
Not too long ago (a few days ago), my beloved Compaq Presario V3010AU decided to self-destruct itself for seeing me starting to study so early due to unknown reason. Right now, its sitting in George's home after the final tests had been done to ensure that its really dead before committing myself to getting a new one.
Honestly, Dell has disappointed me for the first and the last time in getting one of their Vostro series by forcing me to take the parts upgrade worth £60 as a trade-off for a free delivery, BUT THEIR WEBSITE SAYS ITS FREE DELIVERY. Wtf. Daylight robbery in progress. What a way to treat your customers and even dare to tell them that "Sir, even if you placed your order on the website, it will get declined the next day". So tell me then, why does Dell bother to update their website with their latest offer if customer's aren't entitled to purchase them?
Yeh, since Dell doesn't care about their kuchirat customers (i.e. purchases not more than £400), I moved on to get myself a Lenovo 3000 N200. Specs are so much better (except for the proc, but cousin says its quite ok) and a dedicated graphic card, all for £30 extra. No longer do I need to entertain some idiotic sales department personnels, its all down to peace and quiet now.

Mother - A Documentary
A not-to-be-missed documentary about the perils of one being poor, yet still has the determination and preseverence to earn money through sheer hard work with her bare hands and legs. This is what my friend (together with his other friend, who produced that documentary) had to say about her:
Followed a recyclable waste collector for 2 days to walk in her shoes and feel what it's like to be her, from what I experienced of her, I don't think that I have the will to live trough her life and to be honest, I'd suicide/died long time ago.
This woman lives in a house which I would describe it as the aftermath of a collapsed building the only difference is that the house still standing, everything in the house is damaged, dirty and dark, I've seen some very dirty houses but nothing I've seen so far can be compare to this. However, it's not her fault for the house to be like this, she did her best to keep the house clean but one woman simply cannot win against 7 uncooperative bastards (Yes! They deserve the credit for messing up the place.)
She is poor and unfortunate, she has to beg for leftover food at the economy rice stall to put food on the table, and the unfortunate parts comes in when the children refuse to eat, takes from the mother's saving and go out and eat with their friends.
Some might laugh at her mis-fortune, some might laugh at her being uneducated. To me, if you'd do that, you're stooped so low in life that you're worst than a pile of dung that anyone finds on the roadside.
Life's full of fortunes and mis-fortunes, but it is how we perceive and handle the situation to make the best out of it. So what if you're poor? So what if you're rich then? Does it give you the right to be complacent and do nothing to improve the situation further?
Think about it...And. Happy Early Mother's Day to those in Malaysia! (although it's still two weeks away - celebrated in Malaysia on every 2nd Sunday of the month of May)

UKEC - Graduan Fair 2008
Reading Mei's blog had somehow reminded me of my forgotten blog, shall do some update now. Haven't been doing much throughout the Easter holidays, been staying at home for the past 1 1/2 week, thanks to online gaming @ World of Warcraft (WoW).
Somehow during this period, I was forwarded an e-mail bearing the details of a graduates fair by Malaysian companies, organised by the United Kingdom & Eire Council for Malaysian Students (UKEC) down at University College London (UCL). Decided to just head down and see what's the hoo-ha about this fair. Managed to get two-way bus tickets for £14 and two nights stay at a 2-star hotel for £30 per night.
Had an interesting discussion with Mel over the fair, yeah and agreed that although it is beneficial for students as to having such career/graduate fairs around, its the prerogrative of the students/graduates to go around looking for opportunities for summer internship or netting themselves a career which they would love to pursue. Such fairs defeat the purpose of making the students/graduates appreciating their hardwork and trouble in getting the job (reading up, getting prepared for interview etc.), and to be honest, it is more like spoonfeeding to the students/graduates.
Well enough of ranting about the fair. Not that its really important anyway, and for those interested, have a look at the participating partners of the fair in the poster below.

Arctic Cooling MX-2
Weeeeell. Assignments are over (after resubmission of IF on 11/3/08), and hands are getting itchy. Found out what was causing the random shutdown of my laptop when I'm gaming. Apparently the thermal paste that was provided should be time to be replaced with a new paste for better heat transfer...Can you believe it? My Nvidia GeForce GO 6150 GPU core in normal windows mode is running at 99°C. Same goes for Edward's laptop I'd think, thanks to Fer Lynn for donating her nail polish remover which contains Acetone to clean the old thermal paste off.
Project's kicking off after Tuesday, and by then the Arctic Cooling MX-2 should have arrived by 1st Class Royal Mail post. Hopefully it'll solve the problem by then. Am considering to even replace the CPU's thermal paste as well. After reading quite a number of reviews about the Arctic Cooling MX-2 as compared to my cousin's favourite Arctic Silver AS5, finally decided to get Arctic Cooling MX-2 over the Arctic Silver AS5 just for the sake of testing the new thermal paste which claims to have a 8 year life span with a slightly better 1°C operating temperature (lower than AS5).
Main features of the Arctic Cooling MX-2:
- High Thermal Conductivity
- Low Thermal Resistance
- Non-Electrical Conductive
- Non-Capacitive
- Non-Curing
- No Bleeding
- Odorless
A sneak preview of what's coming by post on Monday/Tuesday:

Of Gym and Foam Party
Been on a hiatus lately from blogging due to the nature of feeling shit scared for my double-weighted AIC assignment which is due on Thursday, the 6th of March. Going to experience D-Day tomorrow as the International Finance assignment is ready for collection at Helen Riley's room @ FC54. Heard from Taylor-ians that the results from Kenneth David for their IF assignment is not encouraging at all, and, yeah. Can you imagine the smartest person in the course scores only 67 for the IF assignment?
Naturally with assignment deadlines looming, all of us here at UWE could earn a Ph.D doctorate in Hermit-ism because all we would do is to stay at home, read piles and piles of articles, and visit the mobile Kebab stall located outside of New Student Village (a.k.a. Kampung Baru Pelajar). Its so bad that even my hourly gym session with Niki Poon was distrupted, ahhhh. We're turning into fat phucks. Dammit >.<
A sneak peek of our hourly gym session workouts (Niki's differs as he has more stamina):
Managed to be convinced by Niki Poon to go for the Foam Party taking place at Syndicate on the 10th of March. Apparently they're utilising the UK's largest legal foam machine for this event. Oh well. We'll see about that... ¬.¬

Futsal Session
Many asked, "How would you celebrate a leap year that occurs every 4 years". We, here at UWE, have a very simple answer for you. "Play Futsal". LoL. Yeah and so we did, with 19 people (was 20 initially, until Wei Ho suffered a cracked lip), the session was held at the Astro Turt managed by UWE Sports Centre.
The game was good, initially when both teams refused to wear bibs, as they were honestly quite ugly looking. Left with no choice, a bet was made: whichever team who scores first need not to wear the bibs. Bet taken, 1st goal was scored by the Accounting & Finance (AF) side, and so the Business Administration (BA) had to wear the bibs.
Leg cramps striked approximately 3 players on the field, namely Billy Lee, Ivan Chan and also Chiew Vincent (after his heroic save of the ball as the GK).Probably its that boring for a futsal post but somehow an interesting event happened during the futsal. Chiew Vincent, playing Defense position, had a go at the ball being controlled by Ivan Chan, somehow the two managed to collide, with Vincent's head striking Ivan Chan's pelvic bone, resulting in a time break for a while. (Note: It was not a groin injury after all. LoL)
AF team was leading with the score 3-0, and then the BAs struck back with a goal. AFs eventually picked up and scored another two goals, making it 5-1. BAs, gathered back their team spirit, went on a goal striking spree until they took the lead at 7-6. Last few moments, AFs really picked up their pace and scored an equalising shot and the game ended with a draw. AF 7 vs BA 7.
Overall, a nice draw at 7-7; even better as we've managed to play for 2 hours non-stop.

Peace by Inches - Pacino (Any Given Sunday)
I don’t know what to say really.
Three minutes
to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch
play by play
till we’re finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the shit kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.
Now I can’t do it for you.
I’m too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh….
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off
anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately,
I can’t even stand the face I see in the mirror.
You know when you get old in life
things get taken from you.
That’s, that’s part of life.
But,
you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game
life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean
one half step too late or to early
you don’t quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don’t quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.
On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that’s going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.
I’ll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.
Now I can’t make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy
who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.
That’s a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That’s football guys.
That’s all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?

Valentine's Day + Tzon Cher's birthday
14th of February, Valentine's Day. The time of the year where love probably strikes couples even more than it is when its on other days of the year. For a lucky chap in the Business Administration (hereby referred to as BAs) student (a.k.a. Liaw Tzon Cher), his birthday falls exactly on the 14th of February. How lucky right?
The venue of the dinner is at Mayflower Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at a secluded location, nonetheless their food was better than most of the Chinese restaurants located around Bristol City Center. Dinner was great (drool at the pictures below!) and the customary birthday cake was baked by Jomay (John's other half), and clearly you could see that the birthday boy appreciates the cake that was baked with a mix of cake mixtures, blood and sweat.
No birthday is complete with the customary "Aluba" for the birthday boy, but somehow everyone really got happy and I got aluba-ed too (hmm. seems like I'm the main victim here!). Tuck in to the pics below (if you do feel hungry that is...)
p/s: Look out for J&J Confectionery Cake House Sdn Bhd the next time you hop around in Penang...only sumptuous confectionery and cakes available there.
Tzon Cher and Jomay (the smiling girl. =P)

Hey! Jomay's cake was so delicious until we had to eat the candles as well...

Feminine Men
Just as I had an Accounting in Context (AIC) lecture not too long ago when the lecturer mentioned about feminine men and masculine women, we were all laughing and thought it would not be possible and that "lucky" to bump into one in real life. Well just to clear the air around here, feminine men here DOES NOT refer to gay (homosexual) men. Feminine men simply refers to men's softer side when it comes to approaching something in particular, and there is absolutely nothing WRONG with being a feminine man.
Funny how life gets back at you, yesterday I just caught a glimpse of Edward Saw aka PaPa BeaR aka Penang taiko's feminie side. It all started with Eeyore, the donkey who's Winnie the Pooh's friend in Niki Poon's room that belongs to Misha Poon (Note: Change of ownership, she lost 51% of the majority shareholding of Eeyore) that got into Ed's possession. And the situation after that? Let the pictures do the talking.
Eeyore. Conquered the nether region that no one else could.
Eeyore: Aiyak. Kemek jor...=='''
Eeyore: Can someone help me here? Gettting a tad bit too tight with the BeaR HuG...

Happy Chinese New Year!
Well, Chinese New Year fell on the 7th of February 2008 (this year!) and being stuck here in UK and with friends, there was a mini-reunion dinner gathering amongst the Business Administration (BAs) and the Accounting & Finance (AFs) students at Dynasty Restaurant in Bristol City Centre. Total guests participation stood at 44 people, with some of the attendees bringing their friends along. i.e. Jomay brought her friend Jasmine Note: Corrected below by Jomay.
jomay....happy chinese new year to all my frens.... says:
u know....jasmine
is actually fun fu and john's high sch mate
jomay....happy chinese new year
to all my frens.... says:
she is john's primary schoolmate
Formality was brought to a whole new level with the four of us, i.e. Jon, Edward, Niki and I, not forgetting Fer Lynn who went in a smart-casual-like attire, went to the dinner wearing suits, matched with Topshop/Ted Baker shirts (and ties as well) and together with trench coats. Nonetheless everyone was dressed at their best effort for the dinner, and yeah, there was no vote for the "Best Dressed" for that night.
Opening ceremony was done by Tory, the Year Two AF by playing some classical Chinese New Year (CNY) song on the keyboard (well done!). Some of the more "fortunate" (or unfortunate) people were picked based on the discovery of a bell in the red packets (aka angpows) on their plates, little did they know about the requirement of being put on the stage for a karaoke session after the dinner was served. George as usual, was trigger happy with his new Canon Powershot A570IS (which he terms it as FTW [short abbrevation of "For The Win"]) and took about 272 pictures all together of the short, 3 1/2 hours dinner.
Edward, Jon and I got happy and ordered Pinot red wines for ourselves, with Jon sponsoring 1 bottle and Leonard another one. Total consumption was around 4 to 5 bottles of the Pinot red wine whilst Niki being the beer man, ordered for-god-sake-how-many-pints for himself, Fei Kiat and William (Sindy's other half) of Sun Lik Beer.
To cut the crap short, hats off to Derek as the organising chairman for the nice and Chinese-like atmosphere dinner and let the pictures do the rest of the talking. Last but not least, would like to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year and may all have a prosperous year ahead in the Year of the Rat.
