Natwest Online Banking Card Reader

Been a long time since I've updated this blog, so this post is dedicated to the Natwest Card Reader. LoL. Retrieved this small gadget from the Mendip Reception (they're the ones that receives parcels on behalf of students living here) after noticing that I have a parcel awaiting for me.

Apparently this dinky calculator-sized gadget is supposed to verify the authenticity of the user of the Online Banking services provided by Natwest, by using the unique code which the Card Reader generates everytime when it's used.

Looks complex? Nah, it's actually really simple. There's only 2 steps to it:

1) Verifying your identity
- Insert selected card
- Press the "Respond" button
- Enter the PIN
- Correct PIN will result in the message "PIN CORRECT"

2) Authorization
- Check last 4 digits of the authorzation number and ensure its the same as the last four digits of
the account number that you wish to pay
- Enter authorization number as provided into the Card Reader
- Press the "OK" key
- Enter number generated by the Card Reader
